Character Bios
The character biographies here are for any character whose background isn't part of the existing canon (i.e. there will not be a bio here for Gardenia, Rowan, etc. unless I have significantly altered their history, and even then you'll probably not see them here) and the characters here will only be those who have been formally introduced (or at least mentioned in some significant manner). That means that there are perhaps a few characters who I may mention in passing who will have to remain enigmatic until they appear properly in the story, but that's the way it goes.
Characters
Will
Born and raised in Eterna City, Will never knew his father, and his mother avoids the subject whenever possible. He grew up next door to one of his best friends, Sanakou, and the two of them would do almost everything together when at all possible. Will tends to be less outspoken than others in most cases, preferring to avoid conflict if he can help it. He was the last of his friends to be allowed to leave home, due to his mother being overprotective about letting him go. Perhaps because he was so sheltered by his mother, he is often short on confidence but his inseurity is mostly unfounded because he is easily the most intelligent and intuitive of his friends, and a technological whiz. Most people think of him as an introvert because of the way he acts around strangers, but in reality he simply doesn't bother with other people's negative opinions in most cases. In spite of all his intelligence however he can have a hard time keeping his head when he or someone close to him is threatened or if someone transgresses his personal set of morals. He sees the common trainer-pokémon relationship as a rather base thing, and would rather have pokémon treated as true equals, but since the world at large tends to see things another way, he ends up in many an ill-fought argument on the matter, sometimes putting himself in jeopardy for it. Definitely more brain than brawn however, Will usually tries to resolve his conflicts through negotiation or logic rather than brute force.
Mayumi
Mayumi was born in Eterna Forest, but it didn't take long before she was on her own, as she was separated from her family shortly after being able to fend for herself. She met Will by crying for help when she was being hunted by a hungry pokémon and he saved her life, for which she was eternally grateful. She then chose to stay with him and before long the two of them were rarely seen apart. They first trained with the Eterna gym leader, Gardenia, and then continued on with Will's friends. She appears to be a uniquely powerful member of her own species, developing full-fledged telepathy well before evolving into a kirlia, and generally being much stronger than her age and appearance might suggest. She has a normally outgoing and sunny-dispositioned personality, but can lose herself to her emotions if she isn't careful, such as when she is reminded of the traumatic experience that Will saved her from. She and Will have developed a very close bond, and she has helped him develop his own fledgeling psychic abilities while herself becoming a prodigy at the arts of telepathy and psychokinesis. Because most of her life has been with humans, she has picked up many mannerisms of human society, much aided by her human-like appearance, such as wearing clothing, conversation and etiquette, and generally acting properly in social situations. Because of their close relationship she is rarely, if ever, recalled to her pokéball, and the few cases when she has been were generally very dire circumstances indeed. This psychic pokémon is most certainly a good friend and powerful ally to have, but she would make a formidable opponent should you cross her.
Sanakou
Perhaps the most ambitious of the entire group, Sanakou is easily the closest to the arhetype of the pokémon trainer- she can't wait to collect the eight badges of her own region and even those of other regions as well so she can prove herself to the world. Rather like Will, she never knew her father and was raised by her mother, who was every bit as overprotective. She is the perfect description of the word "tomboy" and hates it when the others try to give her preferential treatment because of her gender. Her prinplup, Napoleon, was a birthday gift from her mother for her 15th birthday, and the two have trained incessantly to become as strong as possible, although Napoleon isn't quite as motivated as she would like sometimes. She's very headstrong, often starting arguments with others over simple or trivial matters, and is by far the most outspoken of the group. She has a deep-seated mistrust of Axl, although she never says exactly why, and the two of them are often at odds when Axl steps up to take charge of a situation. Sanakou has a very strong sense of pride and would probably be the most likely of the group to aspire to the title of Champion. While she is certainly not a slave driver to her pokémon, she sees no problem with the usual arrangement of pokémon and their trainers, preferring instead to focus on the bright side of what the situation offers to both parties instead of what is wrong. Her fierce and prideful nature can sometimes cause more trouble than she bargains for, and it is those times when she is truly grateful for her friends, who will often step in to either attempt to placate whomever she may have angered or else stand up for her if the other person was pushed beyond reason, which happens with unfortunate frequency.
Napoleon
Napoleon is the only one of the group's first pokémon who is regularly kept inside his pokéball, although this is no problem to him, as he particularly disklikes long hikes. While he is a strong fighter, he's actually very spoiled by Sanakou, though she would never admit it. He would sooner take a nap than battle, and overcoming his lax personality is often the hardest part of training for him. When he bothers to actually put himself into a task though, it is almost guaranteed to be done, and done well at that; he's a hard worker once he sets his mind on doing something, and lives to hear the praise of his trainer. He's not the bravest of pokémon, and when the going gets tough, he's liable to cling to Sanakou's leg in fright, which is quite a sight to see, given his size. Despite his shortcomings he is a stalwart ally, and when he manages to overcome his fears he can be a force to be reckoned with, and should Sanakou ever be in danger he would not hesitate to do whatever it takes to keep his master safe.
Tenrou
Originally hailing from the Hoenn region, Tenrou moved to Sinnoh before attending a pokémon trainer academy, and on his very first day there he met Will. The two hit it off immediately and have been fast friends ever since. He can be a bit of a goofball, often unwittingly, but he usually knows when he needs to keep a straight face. He tends to think of himself as quite the ladies' man, but more often comes off as likeably inept when he tries to "turn on the charm" as he puts it. He's quite offbeat, which is possibly because of his upbringing; his parents ran a daycare center in Hoenn's Dewford Town, and he spent most of his free time with the pokémon there rather than with other children his own age. He grew up alongside his closest friend and first pokémon, a Zangoose named Mina. Because of growing up with more pokémon companions than human ones, Tenrou tends can sometimes feel out of place within human society, but as a side-effect of growing up with a Mina as his best friend, he picked up pokémon speech as easily as English while he was a developing infant. His carefree nature endears him to nearly everyone he meets, and his earnest demeanor makes him hard to pick a fight with. He's often full of too much energy for his own good, and the last thing he really needs is the energy drinks he loves belting down every day...
Mina
Despite being raised almost like a sister to Tenrou, Mina often finds herself having to act as his keeper- he'll often get in over his head with his bouncy attitude, and Mina tends to act as his voice of reason. She's much more mellow than her companion, and would rather spend a quiet day in the park than go running around everywhere as she often does when tagging along with her trainer. Incidentally, she was born on the very same day as Tenrou from an egg that had been abandoned by its trainer. When Tenrou's parents let her and Tenrou play together as infants, they immediately took a liking to each other despite their almost polar-opposite personalities (not to mention entirely different species), and stuck close to each other from day one. While she's normally a very calm and quiet person, she has a lighthearted, playful, and sometimes michievous side to her that she shows on occasion. She's very adept at battling and can easily hold her own against opponents much stronger and more experienced than herself, often surprising everyone with her victories.
Axl
Probably the member of the group with the most charisma, Axl is also the most enigmatic of the four, preferring to keep his own past a secret between himself and his closest companion Terry, his absol. While it's clear that he has a dubious past, it's never quite clear what he did, or why he left for Sinnoh to begin with. He appears to have much more life-exprience than his twenty-five years would suggest, and is always ready to share a word of advice with those who need it. He is usually the perfect image of calmness and his laid-back nature can sometimes put people off- some people think him to be lazy when he simply intends to be easygoing. He's street-smart and level headed in conditions that would have many people crying from fright, and has an instictive knowledge of some of the seedier aspects of society, but always keeps them at arm's length, viewing human society at large with a general apathy and dislike. He appears to be able to understand the language of pokémon, and when asked about it he will answer that he was self-taught as atonement, although he never says what for. His devil-may-care attitude and apathetic tone can make many people seem to instantly dislike him, and Sanakou was one of those that he rubbed the wrong way- she distrusts most of what he says and tries to argue with him at nearly every opportunity she gets. He has a deeply held sense of justice, and won't hesitate to put himself on the line if it would be the "right" thing, no matter how hopeless or harmful it might be, to the point where he could easily be called quixotic.
Terry
Terry is very similar to Axl, although she tends to be a bit less relaxed than he. They both have the same quiet, reserved demeanor that is their hallmark trait, and she is rarely more than ten paces from his side. Because she cannot normally communicate with most people, her personality is largely a mystery, but on the occasions when she has spoken, she has been very cautious and wise, often trying to reign in Axl's would-be heroics before they get him and others into trouble. The past that she shares with him is something that she has never discussed with anyone, so it would be anybody's guess as to why the two are so quiet about where they came from. Her innate ability to sense imminent danger comes in very handy when she accompanies Axl and the rest of the group on their travels, and her combat prowess is unrivaled by nearly anybody.
Cass
A carefree girl raised in near seclusion by her adoptive fater, Cass' most readily apparent trait is her genetics. She is a human-pokemon hybrid with the pokémon traits traits of an Eevee, which led to her transformation into a Leafeon-morph. She's always playful and happy, but because she was raised away from society she can often fail to realize when she takes practical jokes too far or when she oversteps her bounds, sometimes leading to rather large misunderstandings. Usually her happy-go-lucky personality sees her through though and she can manage to clear up the situation before it gets out of hand. While she may not have te life experience that the others do, she has just as much motivation. Never one to give up easily, if she can't do something the first time she will always get right back up and try again and again. She was the only one of the group thus far to formally recieve a starter pokémon: her chimchar Tina. With her unique skills and upbeat personality, Cass is always ready for whatever comes her way.
